Over-stocking by his business partner (then Robert Dalgliesh) during his absence on leave in England in 1930's, and with negotiations afoot to limit the liability of the Company incomplete, caused its bankruptcy, leaving Harry to meet all debts.
Latterly he was involved with the Shanghai Water Works (Chairman) and other utilities. Surviving internment under the Japanese during the Second World War 1943-45, he died 5 Feb 1947.
