Prof George Lawson's tuition
in Theology (1787 – 1819)
George Lawson was licensed as a preacher in his twenty-second year, and receiving a call from the congregation of burgher seceders at Selkirk, was ordained their pastor on 17 April 1771. He was chosen as successor to the legendary Brown of Haddington in the chair of theology in the Associate Secession (Burgher) Church of Scotland on 2 May 1787. As far as I know he also continued his pastoral duties to his Selkirk congregation.
The annual intake for his tutorial course is listed on pp 678 – 684 in the late Rev William MacKelvie's mighty compilation of facts and figures. The reproduction isn't particularly reader-friendly, and is indeed even less impressive in the PDF.
