Tributes

Messages [to Sonia] from people who couldn't be present, read out at his funeral.

Robin was a beautiful soul that brought joy into our lives.

I remember him as a man with strong intellect and a warm compassionate heart.

Robin has been my best friend for over 40 years; in fact, the best friend ever throughout my whole life. He's been much more than a buddy to enjoy good experiences with; he's been the brother I've never had as well as wise mentor. We'd little in common educationally and intellectually, and as a scientist and philosopher Robin might say "opposites attract". But the main reason was Robin's kindness to accept me - I've been so blessed to know him. He will live on in our hearts and memories.

I will always remember him with great affection for his many attributes, not least his wry sense of humour. He was always good company, and his wide breadth of knowledge meant that he could converse on any subject, and indeed listen when it was appropriate.

I and others in Reading remember Robin with love.

I was deeply saddened by the news. I really appreciated Robin's friendship and support during the time we worked together.

I will always remember Robin for his warmth, lovely sense of humour, and kindness.

Robin was much loved, and will be missed by all who knew him.

Robin was such a beautiful and very special spirit.

I only wanted to say my uncle Robin, thanks for letting me be your nephew. Thanks for being smart, so special, kind all the time, thanks for being part of my life. We all promise you, Uncle, we love Sonia more than ever.

Gramps always had a glow that gave such happiness to everyone around him, he was the best grandfather anyone could've wanted and will be deeply missed.

This was one of the saddest notices I've ever read. Robin was a wonderful man, kind and a true gentleman. He brightened my life. You made a beautiful couple. He looked at you with admiration and the mutual love was evident. A true love story.

Robin was a truly wonderful man - always thinking of others, his wonderful family and friends, never himself. He was a very selfless man - one of the best I have ever met.

I shall always be grateful for having known him.

Robin was always a quiet, caring and thoughtful young boy, characteristics that I believe he carried throughout his life.

Robin was such a lovely man, it was a pleasure to chat with him. "From an old friend and someone who thought so much of Robin."

Although sadly I never met Robin, I feel as if I knew him. My impression is that Robin was a truly honourable and lovely man. He was so interested and interesting and he clearly had a deep and strong love for his family, which are all characteristics that I admire. I loved his openness, honesty and integrity. Your years together must have been wonderful, if touched with immense sadness, and I'm certain you have so many treasured memories which will remain with you forever and keep him alive in your heart.

Such a lovely, interesting and courteous man.

Robin had that super combination of a very good brain, and the ability to make anyone less gifted intellectually feel just as interesting. That, plus an endearingly gentle manner and a quick wit, made a brilliant personality. No wonder we all loved him.

I thought of Robin as a gentle giant. He was a wonderful speaker (though usually not outspoken) with mellifluous voice, but more important such depth and clarity of thought and conviction. He leaves behind a legacy of great love for you and the family, but the loss must be immense, not only to you but to all who knew and loved him.
