The Times' obituary of Tom Cottrell mentions that he spent two years in research at the University of Oxford (presumably 1945 – 1947, following the end of the Second World War), though doesn't say whether it resulted in a postgraduate degree. However, as this certificate shows, he certainly qualified as a Tiger Moth pilot.
