Saners pére et fils
I'm immensely grateful to Graeme Andrew for sending me these pictures of two individuals so central to the misfortunes of Charles Farquharson Findlay.
As Graeme says in his accompanying email:
For your interest I have attached photos of John Saner Senior (c.1806-1882) and Junior (1839-1889) uploaded by user Liz Spurway to Ancestry.com. The Junior, I think, closely resembles the bust from Hull Museum shown on your website.
....
Happily John must have married the right woman as their descendants seem sadly free of scandal and are in some cases even quite distinguished.
John Saner the younger (1839 – 1889))
(I've taken the liberty of rotating the original image slightly clockwise)
Though I do still feel indignant at the younger Saner's despicable behaviour in this whole sorry affair, I have no animus whatsoever against his father or his descendants, who may not have been too keen on him either!
