RESIGNATION OF A CAPTAIN
Friday night's Gazette has the following: –
4th East Riding
Captain John Middleton resigns his commission, and is permitted to retain his rank and continue to wear the uniform of the corps on his retirement, dated 15th June last.
------------
Captain Middleton was a very active [officer] and one of the most popular officers of the brigade, and his loss will be felt by every rank of the corps.
Notes
- Capt Middleton had replaced Lt Col Saner as Adjutant to Lt Col Humphrey when Saner had been made to resign. Continued use of rank and uniform after leaving the Services does seem to have been a major obsession of that era.
