It is noted in the publication

Memoirs of the Life and Writings of Ralph Wardlaw, William Lindsay Alexander; Adam & Charles Black, Edinburgh, 1856

that Helen Halcro Wardlaw was a niece of Rev Ralph Wardlaw and thence was related directly back to the Erskine divines themselves. I have at last been able to pin down her parentage, and the link is now fully-forged.
