Sheffield Archives

Sheffield Archives collects, preserves and lists records relating to Sheffield and South Yorkshire and makes them available for reference and research. In particular, it holds a substantial archive of historical documents relating to Sheffield's traditional iron and steel industry. In particular, in the section relating to Brown Bayleys Steels Ltd is this item

  • [Various photos and articles about the 450 ft. stainless steel chain manufactured by Brown Bayley Steel Works to support the dome of St. Paul's Cathedral, London] [c. 1928] (Sheffield Local Studies Library: MP 1998 M)

I don't suppose I shall ever have time or energy to pursue this intriguing trove of material, but at least its existence is now out into the public domain.
