Friedrich August von Kaulbach
(2 Jun 1850 – 26 Jul 1920)
The self-portrait on the left is of course a mirror of the right-hand photograph, and although I'm not entirely sure that the picture on the lower right is also a self-portrait, it's once again a pretty close antimer of the photograph opposite it.
This second photograph reveals the relaxed, prosperous, society painter of small children and young women, the latter often in deshabille (and I'm all for that), plus the occasional masculine bigwig such as Kaiser Wilhelm II. Needless to say, I know nothing about art but I knows wot I likes, and I find his pictures very agreeable (especially the chalk or pastel ones). Let's see some more, found randomly on the internet.
Sadly, the pictures of his wife and family (three daughters) are few in number and only one or two are of sufficient photographic quality.
