John Ritchie Findlay
(21 Oct 1824 – 16 Oct 1898)
As Churchill once remarked, "We shape our buildings; thereafter they shape us", and perhaps we can see this effect at work on John Ritchie Findlay...
Amidst the welter of family, commerce, civic responsibility, charitable and philanthropic benevolence, how could he possibly find time for anything less hectic? Well, he apparently could. The excellent Catherine W Reilly has found further evidence of the poetic gene in the Ritchie/Findlay DNA, though I can't yet locate a convincing internet source of its privately-circulated expression.
