The Allen brothers
No, not a trio of bespangled trapeze artistes, but three adventurous individuals, all now deceased, of prosperous middle class English background, though of Romany descent, each of whom found new horizons in the colonial Kenya of the 1920's.
The oldest brother Denis,$ much liked and respected, lived, with his wife Paddy, at least latterly on the island of Manda, part of the Lamu Archipelago of Kenya. His son Barry (d Q1 1994) was a great friend of Alan Douglas-Dufresne, and of course Alan closed the loop by marrying Barry's sister Shirley.
The second brother Frank Maurice (Bunny) Allen1, 2, 3 (17 Apr 1906 – 14 Jan 2002) became a legend in his own lifetime. An extraordinarily handsome chap, and there is every likelihood that his brothers were similarly blessed with knee-tremblingly good looks.
The youngest brother (I don't know his baptismal name) was nick-named Ba,$ so-called because his first words, as reported by his nanny who was wheeling his pram past a flock of sheep in Windsor Great Park at the time, were "Baa-Baa". A man of action, both in the ring and with the opposite sex, he wasn't perhaps the sharpest knife in the box, but like his brothers he enjoyed life to the utmost. And what better obituary than that?
